Camp Perthes International

Perthes Kids Foundation organizes the following international camp programs in the USA (est. 2013), Australia (est. 2016), England (est. 2018) & Spain (est. 2019). Each camp generally has between 35-50 kids, ages 7-15, all diagnosed with Legg-Calve-Perthes disease, with around 10-16 adult volunteers, which include a supportive mix of parents, medical students/staff and adults with Perthes. We provide all meals, lodging and activities, within a safe, friendly, and fun environment.

Parents of children with Perthes will find our camps to be an amazing and life-changing, experience for their kids, to finally meet other kids, just like them. Having Perthes and a limp is the "normal", so kids never feel out of place, here. We help build confidence and encourage our kids to always just be themselves. Camp also provides a unique opportunity for parents to meet up, bond and share stories with each other, while their kid is at camp.

Please join one of our CAMP PERTHES Facebook groups for your particular country of interest. There, you will find other parents, volunteers, photos, videos and lots of information about the camp.

Our 6th annual CAMP PERTHES USA will take place June 18-22, 2018, in Irvine, California! This will be our very special Perthes SURVIVOR-themed camp! Our 2017 camp was in partnership with The Painted Turtle, with a theme based on Empathy & Inclusion, where our Perthes Kids got the opportunity to share campgrounds with dozens of other kids with other unique, medical conditions, to make new friends, learn their stories and create fun memories, together.

This year's camp will be at a new location, within Irvine Regional Park, solely dedicated to kids diagnosed with Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease, and will feature an All-Star version of our very popular Survivor Challenge (with invited celebrity guests). It will also include a special camp field trip to Disneyland!!! For international camp applications, volunteer information and other updates, please sign up for the program email list, and also join our Perthes Brief at the bottom of this page. Your kid will love this experience! Camp Perthes USA applications are now closed.

Kids Open Up About Perthes

Bus Trip.jpg

The above video was shot during our Camp Perthes USA 2017 field trip to Six Flags Magic Mountain amusement park. We always make time to journey outside of camp, as one group, and do something fun and/or educational in the local area. The adventure always makes for great bonding and friendship building, for all the kids, as they usually sing songs, open up, and share stories about their common bond, which is having Perthes disease. This bus ride to Six Flags was yet another proud and memorable experience for our kids and volunteers.
